Segall and the ship
The exhibition project shows the life and work of the Lithuanian Jewish artist Lasar Segall, with the main focus on his painting Immigrants’ Ship. In order to elaborate his emblematic work, Segall relied on his experience as an immigrant. He immigrated to Brazil in 1912. The exhibition reveals the artist’s travel universe using his preparatory drawings, photos, sketches and engravings, which gave substance to all spheres involved in creating this work. The graphic designer is one of these spheres in which I encharged. My goal was to create a backdrop to highlight the artist’s pieces, at the same time that his life story was told. I thought of the graphic designer as a continuation of his expressionist artistic work. The exhibition conception was created by Renato Theobaldo, director of Praxinoscopio Scenography.
